By now, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' "White Privilege II," has been picked apart and tossed to the sides for the wolves to devour. The rapper released the straightforward and very real track about racial tension in America and how many steal from black culture but don't come around when black lives are in danger. The rapper mentioned Iggy Azalea on the track and it initially didn't go over so well with her. Now it seems she is shrugging off the entire situation and song by saying that we are "global."
According to TMZ, the Australian rapper gave Macklemore his props for the track but stated that she didn't agree with her name being mentioned on the track. When they asked her if "white people should be allowed to borrow from black culture," Iggy stated, "I think all culture takes from all culture. We're so global now, I think it's impossible for everybody not to take influence from everybody."
Lewis and Macklemore released the 8-minute track as a follow up to Macklemore's "White Privilege," off of the album The Language of My World. Macklemore raps about Black Lives Matter, racism, and more. Some of the lyrics include, "You've exploited and stolen the music, the moment/The magic, the passion, the fashion you toy with/The culture was never yours to make better/You're Miley, you're Elvis, you're Iggy Azalea."
"White Privilege II," is off of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' upcoming album, This Unruly Mess I've Made. The album is due out on February 26th and it is sure to make more of a splash once it drops. If you are a fan of "White Privilege II" the track is available for purchase on iTunes.
Tell us what you think of the track. Should Macklemore have judged Iggy Azalea? Do you agree with Iggy's statement on cultural influences?
