Brad Paisley Gives Memorial Day Performance For Troops In Afghanistan with President Obama

In honor of Memorial Day, Brad Paisley made a trip to the main U.S. base in Afghanistan with President Obama and some of his advisors. Paisley performed at Bagram Airfield in front of 3,000 members of the U.S. military, Radio.com reports.

While onstage, Paisley told the troops that this opportunity to perform was "the honor of my life." He played an hour-long acoustic set.

As Radio.com notes, Paisley and the President boarded Air Force One Saturday evening and flew overnight to Bagram Airfield, located north of the country's capital, Kabul.

The visit reportedly remained a surprise up until they landed. Following their arrival, President Obama gave a speech to the trips and thanked them for serving the country. He met with military commanders and visited the wounded.

The trip marks the U.S. and NATO's decision to withdraw most of their forces ahead of the year-end deadline. Only a small number of U.S. troops are planned to stay beyond 2014 in order to train Afghan security forces and conduct counterterrorism missions. But as Billboard notes, this plan is contingent on President Hamid Karzai's successor signing the bilateral agreement that Karzai has refused to approve.

Paisley took to Twitter to announce his return to U.S. soil, writing, "God Bless America, home safe. Thanks for the life BO. Our military is the best the world has ever seen."
