Krystalmath Proves Promising with New Tracks 'Follow Me' and 'Undercover' [LISTEN]

Rebecca Jean Rossi is pianist and contributing vocalist for Ravens & Chimes, a Brooklyn band acclaimed for its artful rock approach and has toured with a number of indie-pop stalwarts, including Dan Deacon and the Fiery Furnaces. So of course when she provides a list of producers that she admires for Music Times, it's filled with obscure names that only the most snooty of record shop owners would recognize.

Names such as Pharrell Williams and Calvin Harris.

So no, Rossi's new alt-pop outfit Krystalmath doesn't aim to confound critics or listeners (nor does Ravens & Chimes, for the record), but it won't be blasting at your local nightclub either. Rossi got help from Chimes frontman Asher Lack when writing songs for her new act, so the themes of emotional honesty and PG-13 innocence that fans recognize from her first band follow her to Krystalmath, which pairs them with danceable electronic elements instead.

Granted, Krystalmath has only dropped two tracks so far, but Music Times takes a bull-market approach to music and we're buying in. We loved first single "Follow Me" so much that we begged Rossi to let us feature it at the end of the podcast, but she convinced us to run newly released "Undercover" instead. And that track is also pretty darn good. You can listen to both here.

Other topics broached during this weeks Music Times Meets podcast included the lack of women in computer science programs (and how it affects music), Hedwig and The Angry Inch (the topic that really broke bassist Erika Omundson's silence), and how Google is subliminally controlling the band name industry.

Download this week's podcast or listen below to hear a band we plan on hearing a lot more often soon enough.
