Forbes Reveals The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women: Beyoncé, Shakira, Lady Gaga, And More

Forbes has released its annual list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women, it's "definitive guide to the extraordinary icons and leaders, groundbreakers and ceiling crashers who command the world stage." This year's list is topped by German chancellor Angela Markel. But the list also takes into consideration celebrities as "role models."

In the music realm, Beyoncé comes in at No. 17 with Shakira taking No. 58 and Lady Gaga taking No. 67.

Forbes notes that 2013 was a record year for Beyoncé, who sang for the president, performed at the Super Bowl, headlined one of the most profitable tours of the year, and shocked the world with her surprise "visual album." She also topped Forbes' list of highest-earning celebrity couples with her husband Jay Z and is "embracing her role as an icon of women's empowerment."

Shakira was noted for being a "true global superstar." They mention her launching her music career at age 13 and selling close to 60 million albums worldwide since then. She's topped the charts in 55 countries and is the "most liked" person on Facebook with 93 million followers. She has also been appointed to the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics and is a UNICEF ambassador as well as the founder of the Barefoot Foundation. They also mention her position coaching on NBC's The Voice, her partnership with P&G to sell toothpaste, and the release of her tenth studio album

As for Lady Gaga, Forbes mentions her Born This Way Tour and her landing No. 2 on their Celebrity 100 list with $80 million in earnings. She also has her perfume venture and design collaborations as well as a massive social media following.

Other entertainers who made the list include Sofia Vergara, Ellen DeGeneres, Angelina Jolie, and Gisele Bundchen.

In the political sphere former first lady Hillary Clinton swipes the No. 6 spot, two ahead of current first lady Michelle Obama.

As for media moguls, Oprah Winfrey made the list ahead of Anna Wintour, Bonnie Hammer and Arianna Huffington.

In the technology sphere, Sheryl Sandberg topped Marissa Mayer and Meg Whitman.

And in the business of fashion, Diane von Furstenberg, Miuccia Prada, Tory Burch, and Sara Blakely are among those mentioned on the list.
