Yes you did read that title right. If you thought Sir Paul McCartney working with Kanye West and Rihanna was the end of his musical adventures in his old age, then you are wrong. He has teamed up with Skype to compose some audio emjois for Valentine's Day.
This is coming from the man who has written some of the greatest songs of the 20th century like "Hey Jude," "Blackbird," "Let It Be" and "Helter Skelter." Now he is writing little five-second clips of sound that are to resemble what an emoji should sound like. What a time to be alive.
Each emoji is love-themed for Valentine's Day. They were recorded over the course of a week "using a variety of instruments including guitars, drums, xylophone and his voice" as he describes in the video.
Sir Paul said this about the collaboration in a statement via Consequence of Sound. "It turned out to be a great laugh at the same time as challenging because you suddenly realize you've got to compress a musical interpretation of an expression into less than five seconds. It was like doing a huge crossword puzzle and coming up with all these solutions. And at the same time it was musical so it was great practice for me in the studio."
Check out the video below where you see him working out how to make these various "audio emjois" with the help of a few collaborators who make the visual effects for him and see him sounding out the effects in a weird almost surreal way. The sounds are available on Skype now for your wooing and flirting because nothing says sexy like a man in his seventies.
