James Blake Premieres Soulful 'Modern Soul' On BBC Radio 1 Residency

We have waited a long time to type this, but James Blake is back. The 27-year-old electronic soul producer and singer premiered his first single first 2014, titled "Modern Soul" yesterday on his BBC Radio 1 residency.

"Modern Soul" starts out with booming piano and moody vocals from Blake as he laments the changing times.

"I see the scenery changes, changes / I want it to be over, I want it to be over / When I don't think of you, the willpower / What I didn't see was I was talking to so many people at once / I had no idea I was / I had no idea of the difference between / The way I saw your face and the way it was / There are some strong xx vibes in the airy and reverbed production, though this feels like," he croons in the second verse.

There is still the sadness you expect from Blake when he sings, but also a hopefulness that one can move on from whatever has been holding you down in the past.

This is the first new music that we have heard from James Blake since his experimental EP 200 Press at the end of 2014.

His 2013 album Overgrown won the Mercury Prize and put James Blake on the map as an international star to be reckoned with, showing he wasn't going to fall into the sophomore slump. Fans have been waiting on his upcoming album Radio Silence, which is reportedly supposed to feature Kanye West and Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, though concrete details about the album have not been revealed.

With his BBC Radio One residency, James Blake has the perfect platform to reveal new music from the album that fans hope will arrive this year.

Stream "Modern Soul" below though there is no word on when it will be released.
