Sinéad O'Connor Announces New Album Title Inspired By 'Ban Bossy' Campaign

Sinéad O'Connor has announced the title of her upcoming record. Inspired by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg's "Ban Bossy" campaign (endorsed by Beyoncé), which aims to empower young girls, she has dubbed her new album, I'm Not Bossy, I'm The Boss, Pitchfork reports.

O'Connor wrote on her blog why she connected with the campaign. "It can be tricky being a female boss, and I think Sheryl's campaign is a terribly important one."

According to her post, the album was originally titled The Vishnu Room.

"At the stage I became aware of the Ban Bossy campaign it was too late to change the album title because the sleeve was already in print," she wrote. "But last week when the record company received the promo shots, which included the cover shot you now see, they asked could they change the planned cover to the current one, and that allowed me the opportunity of changing the title."

Back in December, O'Connor spoke to U-T San Diego about the album's original title.

"Well, the religion I identify with the most is Hinduism, although I hate 'ism.' I have in my bedroom a mural that I got a friend of mine to paint of Vishnu, who is the Hindu equivalent of the Holy Spirit," she said. "It's all flowers and smiles, and much brighter than what I was raised with, which was the image of a crucified man, who I somehow had some responsibility for. Vishnu is the supreme Godhead and lives in the core of everyone's heart. So, that's on the wall of my bedroom and it's going to be an album of very romantic songs, not that much ever happens in my bedroom."

The 12-song album, which follows up 2012's How About I Be Me (You Be You), is due out August 12 via Nettwerk and features the single "Take Me To Church." O'Connor first announced the album on May 12 via Facebook.
