Grammys 2016: Taylor Swift '1989' Wins First Award, Thanks James Taylor in Acceptance Speech

The 2016 Grammys kicked off the awards in a major way on Monday (Feb. 15), with a big win for Taylor Swift. At the very beginning of the Grammys pre-telecast ceremony, Swift's 1989 beat out the competition for Best Pop Vocal Album -- and in the process of her big win, she managed to mostly pay homage to her fellow nominee James Taylor.

Swift's 1989 beat out James Taylor's Before This World as well as Kelly Clarkson's Piece by Piece, Florence + The Machine's How Big How Blue How Beautiful, and Mark Ronson's Uptown Special.

Though Swift herself was not in attendance as the pre-telecast, one of 1989's many producers, Jack Antonoff (also known for his work in fun. and Bleachers) was there to accept the award. He quickly rang Swift up on her cellphone to give her the good news, and she spent the entire duration of her speech telling others they had won and telling Taylor she loves him.

"Is James Taylor there? Tell him I love him! Tell James Taylor I love him" Swift exclaimed repeatedly, though Taylor did not actually seem to be in attendance at the ceremony.

Swift's win for 1989 was not only the very first award given out for the night, it was the first Grammy for Swift -- who is the second-most nominated artist of the night with seven total nods. Swift is also nominated for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Music Video.
