Kanye West has been going out of his way to avoid attention (note recent attacks on photographers), especially when it involves keeping his newborn daughter and mother Kim Kardashian away from the paparazzi. So where does a guy like that go looking for property where he can shield his family away from people with cameras? Apparently, Graceland, the iconic home of musician Elvis Presley.
The home is currently listed as a designated national landmark, so revamping the vampy decor is not an option. Presley's daughter Lisa Marie Presley currently owns the property, but rarely stays there, which makes sense considering the destination's 500,000 yearly visitors. Oh, that's another thing: Anyone who buys the property has to keep it open to the public. Considering all that, we're not sure it sounds worth it for someone to drop just more than $84 million for the property. Kanye seems to think otherwise.
"Kanye is really excited about the prospect of owning it. He thinks it would be really cool if he, Kim and baby Nori lived there, at least some of the time," said an unnamed source. "Kanye has always been intrigued by Elvis, especially his influence in bringing blues and gospel music to the masses. Kanye thinks owning Graceland and restoring it to its former glory would cement his place in showbiz history."
All of this is true. Plus, there are benefits to owning Graceland. The most influential musician in American history is buried in your front yard, we assume the purchasing price includes Elvis's car collection and plane across the street (even if you can't use them, still a sweet collection), plus the owner can look at the notorious toilet that's closed off to the public. And Memphis is a great town all around!
