Premiere: GIbbz Delivers Fun "I Really Love You" From 'Above Water'

New York purveyor of funk, rock and electronic Mike Gibney, better known his stage name Gibbz is getting ready to release his new album Above Water in just about three weeks' time. He has already released two singles from the Kickstarter-funded LP, "Stay A While" and "Higher Than I've Ever Been" with Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli. Today, we are happy to premiere the next single from the album, "I Really Love You."

The single is a fun, escapist track from Gibbz where he expresses his deep affection for another person. The line "I f*cking love you" is repeated next to his cooing over an upbeat drum pattern, soft synths and crunchy guitars.

Like an increasing number of musicians these days, Gibbz funded his new album Above Water with the help of his fans, taking to Kickstarter to round up funding. He easily reached his goal for the album and was able to record.

Gibbz new album Above Water will be released on March 8 and has features from Big Gigantic's Dominic Lalli. "I Really Love You" will be released tomorrow on all portals.

We had a chance to catch up with Gibbz to chat about the single and talk a little about his Kickstarter campaign to create the album.

1. Talk about the concept behind "I Really Love You."

The idea behind "I Really Love You" was simply being so filled with affection and appreciation of another person that the only way to express it is to say I f*cking Love You, because just plain I Love You doesn't feel strong enough. It's not a sappy love song kind of I Love You, but more of a holy sh*t, you are the most awesome person to ever exist. Unfortunately, that's tough to put to a melody. It's about trying new things, and not being afraid to look like a fool, because the only person that matters is the person who'll never think of you as a fool.

2. Did you expect the Kickstarter campaign to do so well?

I was really doubtful that the Kickstarter campaign would get any support. I didn't think it was a good idea at all. My managers Morgan and Jay really kept pushing me to give it a shot, and it actually worked. I managed the campaign on my own and it was much harder than I had expected. I don't know if I would do it again, but I'm happy this one went so well.

3. What can fans expect from the album?

The whole album is an exploration of love from different perspectives. Falling in love, blossoming relationships, missed chances, being led on, rejection and even sex addiction. I've never written from behind my own eyes, as I don't see myself as an exciting subject. I'm an overweight, beer drinking, burrito lover. It's not very fascinating to be me. If I can take on a different persona, and write from that perspective, songs come much easier. That's what I did with each song on this album.
