Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros Part Ways With Vocalist Jade Castrinos

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have parted ways with their longtime vocalist Jade Castrinos, LiveForLiveMusic reports. There had been speculation of a possible departure after Castrinos wasn't present for a few of ESMZ's recent show on their North American Tour.

She confirmed the speculation in a post on Instagram saying, "For seven years I sand and wrote music with edward sharpe. They vote me off tour a week before they left, via email. lol."

Ban leader Alex Ebert responded to Castrino's message in a Facebook post that read:

"Anyone on here who thinks the story could be as terribly and flatly painted as Jade conveniently did has no idea what this band has always been about. It's a shame to think anyone would comment anything other than a hope that it heals. If you think we came to this decision suddenly or as some form of punishment you have no idea who we are. If you think that email to jade was not sent 30 seconds after a meeting WITH jade and the band but out of the blue- you have no idea who we are. If you don't think we spent years trying to heal this very issue as a group, together - years trying to help correct this, love this until it was right, sometimes flailing and other times sailing, but always trying - you have no idea who we are.

Yet if you do not know that sometimes people must be unwilling to allow a continuation of old patterns in order to make a change for the better - you simply have not yet lived long enough. I hope you all do not continue to speculate ignorantly. It is beneath you and it is grotesquely damaging."

Another since-deleted statement posted to Facebook (via JamBase) read:

"Jade has spoken out about not being on this tour. Her statement left a lot of things to the imagination. Out of respect for Jade, I will keep it that way. Only we must now explain that simply and sadly, we did not feel right doing this tour with Jade. That fact breaks my heart in ways I don't want to describe. With hope with all of ourselves that we reunite with Jade again, free-spirited, and with that daring love that is our only foundation."

Fans of the band and Castrinos, saddened by the news and angered about how it had been broken, have taken to the band's page in support of Castrinos.

We hope that they can reconcile their differences sooner rather than later because Jade really is the girl of the hour, and ESMZ won't be the same without her.
