Whether you drink to relax, get drunk, or some other reason, you can bet that musicians can relate, and have done so through their compositions. Below, we've compiled ten songs about wine that will definitely help you celebrate this very real, very great holiday!
1. Billy Joel, "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant"
The opening lines to this classic song from the "Piano Man" are arguably the most recognizable lyrics about wine. Like the title says, Joel's hit is about the place where most people experience wines the most, an Italian restaurant. Do you prefer red or white wine? Billy's suggests Rose, instead!
2. UB40, "Red, Red Wine"
This is another classic song that is right on the nose for this playlist. Originally written by Neil Diamond, the reggae version of this song is the most popular, and it is now stuck in your head!
3. David Gray, "Only the Wine"
The English singer-songwriter pens this great song about saying a little too much while under the influence of a great wine. We've all been there, so listen to the song and relate!
4. Tame Impala, "Half Full Glass of Wine"
Playing on the optimistic view of a half full/empty glass of liquid, this rocker is sure to get your head bobbing and the wine a-flowin'.
5. Jeff Buckley, "Lilac Wine"
We have to bring the mood down a bit with the incomparable voice of Jeff Buckley taking on this Nina Simone song. Hopefully you aren't too drunk by now.
6. Johnny Otis, "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee"
The previous song was so slow and emotional that we have to bring the mood up with this great blues number. If we could've made this entire playlist this song, we would've because it clearly embodies today's holiday.
7. Paul Anka, "A Steel Guitar and a Glass of Wine"
I'll never pass up an opportunity to listen to Paul Anka. Enjoy!
8. Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood, "Summer Wine"
While we're still in winter, hearing Nancy Sinatra describe her favorite wine of the sunnier season.
9. Frank Sinatra, "Days of Wine and Rose"
If Nancy's on our playlist, we almost have to include her dad. Plus, we're talking about wine, and the Chairman of the Board definitely enjoys his wine.
10. Ryan Adams, "Strawberry Wine"
Ryan Adams is an incredible songwriter, but his epic, nearly 8-minute long waltz is arguably the best example of his storytelling prowess. This isn't a happy song, but it is as layered, fragrant and smooth as the best wine you've ever had.
