John Lennon, who rose to fame with his band the Beatles, has remained in the hearts of the people even after his assassination in 1980. The Beatles singer and founder became a music legend and icon, which gave his hair a $35,000 (£24,298) price tag in a recent auction. The lock of Lennon's hair, which was cut off by a German barber back in 1966, was sold for a whopping amount at the Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas. The said hair was four-inches long and it was purchased by United Kingdom-based memorabilia collector, Paul Fraser, BBC News reported.
The hair was kept by the barber after it was cut from his head prior to his filming of the 1967 movie, How I Won the War, where he played Private Gripweed, donning his signature round glasses. The haircut occurred a month after the famous band released the Revolver album.
“This is the largest lock of John Lennon’s hair ever offered at auction and this world record price is a lasting testament to the world’s more than 50-year love affair and fascination with Lennon and the Beatles,” said Garry Shrum of Heritage Auctions in Dallas, according to The Guardian.
Shrum added that the locks came from “a very important time in his career” and that it was “a good size with quite a lot of strands.”
Aside from the hair of the "Jealous Guy" singer, there were also many Beatles items in the auction. According to Global News, included in the auction were a photograph of the band with their signatures that tagged at $42,500 as well as a sealed copy of the band's "butcher" cover of the Yesterday and Today album which sold for $125,000.
Memorabilia items from the group had been selling well -- like its $75,000 (£52,000) first ever recording contract that was sold in New York last year. The contract was signed in 1961 when the song "My Bonnie" was released. It was owned by Uwe Blaschke, a German collector who died in 2012, Telegraph reported.
