The grind just doesn't stop for this controversial hit maker. Just two weeks after releasing his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo, Kanye West is already gearing fans up for a followup project. On Friday (Feb. 26), the rapper retreated to his favorite form of social media to announce the name of his new album, citing the inspiration came from a vintage gaming console. He also used Twitter to praise actor Will Ferrell.
Drum roll please. The 38-year-old Chicago native announced his forthcoming album will be titled, Turbo Grafx 16. West revealed the game system was one of his all time favorites when he was a kid and his go-to game of choice was Blazing Lazers.
By now, fans should know not to get too comfortable with any of West's initial album title ideas. Before ultimately deeming it TLOP, he battled through various name changes including Swish, Waves (which caused a Twitter war between West and Wiz Khalifa), and So Help Me God.
Nostalgia was at an all time high as West reminisced about an old friend he used to play the console with. The two used to play The Super Spy together, revealing it was his buddy Mali who he mentioned on the "Drive Slow" track.
Things quickly switched gears when the father of two acknowledged a fellow respected man in fashion. After admitting to watching Zoolander 2 twice, the rapper gave a shout out to Will Ferrell and his ability to continuously make people laugh throughout the years.
The sequel opened in theaters on Feb. 12 in the United States, earning over $24 million at the box office. The film featured appearances from Justin Bieber, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson, and of course, Ben Stiller.
"Will Ferrell has reached walking living breathing god status! His existence is a blessing," West Tweeted." Perhaps it was seeing him play the same character from 15 years ago with 15 more years experience that showed how sharp and Bruce Lee status he is."
