Stars as well as fans were no doubt excited about the climax of the awards season which was the 88th Annual Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre on Feb. 28 in Hollywood, California which honored both actors and musicians in various categories. Like other awarding ceremonies, the biggest Hollywood stars from Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence to Lady Gaga and Jared Leto gathered at the event.
The stars graced the red carpet with the first to arrive being Maria Menounos, Giuliana Rancic and Nancy O’Dell. Best Supporting Actress winner Alicia Vikander for The Danish Girl appeared like a Disney princess with a Belle-like yellow dress while Sofia Vergara looked dashing in a navy blue gown.
Jennifer Lawrence walked the red carpet in a black see-through Dior gown and Kerry Washington also looked lovely in a black and white dress. Rachel McAdams stunned in a backless emerald gown while Cate Blanchett was wearing a turquoise Armani gown, The Guardian reported.
Brie Larson, who got the Best Actress award for Room, was wearing a beautiful blue Gucci gown. Heidi Klum came with a fancy purple dress accented with 20 carat white and pink diamond earrings. Like Klum, Tina Fey and Reese Witherspoon were also wearing purple.
While all eyes were set on the star's gowns, Gaga and Priyanka Chopra were wearing jewels that are worth $8 million each. Gaga's dangling Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings had a total of 90 carats tucked behind her left ear.
As for former Miss World Priyanka, she was also wearing Lorraine Schwartz jewels with a 50 carat diamond earrings costing $3.2 million paired with a 22 carat diamond ring worth $3.4 million, a 10 carat diamond pinky ring worth $850,000 and an 8 carat diamond bypass ring that cost $300,000, Mail Online reported.
Meanwhile, the finest men of Hollywood also walked on the red carpet in tuxedos, including Best Actor winner DiCaprio, Eddie Redmayne, Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Redmayne, Ryan Seacrest, Jacob Tremblay and more.
Celebrity couples also stole the spotlight with Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum, and more. Fans were even happy to see Titanic stars DiCaprio and Kate Winslet together on the red carpet.
During the ceremony, Gaga did a powerful performance of her song, "Til It Happens to You," which moved the crowd with its message against sexual assault. Aside from Gaga, David Grohl of Foo Fighters performed solo with the song "Blackbird."
"Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)" from Fifty Shades of Grey was performed by The Weeknd while Sam Smith rocked "Writing's on the Wall" and even went home with the best original song award, Billboard reported.
