The Oscars may take most of the entertainment news from the weekend after big wins for Spotlight, Mad Max, Leonardo DiCaprio and others, but in the UK, there was one man using his talents to raise some serious money for good. DJ EZ challenged himself to spin for 24 hours straight and livestreamed the whole affair in hopes that fans would watch him complete the feat of human endurance and donate money to Cancer Research UK. At the end of the whole affair, DJ EZ managed to raise over $80,000 for charity. That total came from 6,337 donations and counting.
The marathon set kicked off at 6 p.m. GMT on Saturday night and finished 24-hours later. DJ EZ didn't just go up there and put on a 24-hour pre-recorded playlist either-he spun on vinyl for a portion of it and was using fx, scratching and dropping some bombs throughout the full set. He has done lengthy sets before, like a 3 and a half hour set for the Boiler Room, but this 24-hour set puts to shame the DJs who love to advertise their 4-6 hour "extended set" as a way to draw in more fans.
During the whole affair, he drew plaudits from other DJs and industry members such as Dim Mak, Anjunadeep, Boiler Room, Julio Bashmore, Modeselektor, Danny Howard and others.
He posted a few videos of him DJing throughout the day and night as well, which you can see below. If you didn't get to donate, the link is still open to give a little to a very worthy cause.
We're into hour 9 and there's no slowing down! #DJEZ24HourSet
