The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne And Steven Drozd Team With Linear Downfall For New Album As Electric Würms [LISTEN]

The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd have joined forces with Nashville's Linear Downfall for a new project called Electric Würms. The group will release its debut album, Musik di Schwer zu Twerk via Warner Bros. on August 18. The band's first single, a cover of Yes' "Heart of the Sunrise" is out today via iTunes, Consequence of Sound reports.

As CoS notes, Drozd serves as the group's frontman, performing vocals, guitar, and Keys. Coyne, on the other hand, plays bass, and Linear Downfall fills in the remaining instrumentation.

The existence of the psych-prog group was first reported in April of last year by Fuse, SPIN notes. Drozd spoke to them about the idea behind the group.

"Wayne [Coyne] wanted me to be this weird John McLaughlin-style front guy playing guitar with a crack team of prog musicians."

Electric Würms have since posted in-studio clips to YouTube, giving a taste of their sound with previews of their Yes cover and a jam based on Miles Davis' "Directions," SPIN notes.
