Rapper Royce Da 5'9" will release his highly-anticipated new album Layers on April 15 (2016). The Shady Records emcee just premiered the debut single "Tabernacle," which greatly focuses on the remarkable day that he met infamous "Rap God," Eminem.
Amid the debut, Royce told Genius:
"This is a story that I've been waiting to tell my whole career and I was just waiting on the right time to tell it. This is a story about December 29th: The day that I met Eminem, the day that my grandma died and the day that my son was born. It all happened on the same day. It was a turn of events day."
The entire track is a riveting journey through the Detroit native's deeply personal life. Check it out [WARNING, EXPLICIT CONTENT]:
During a recent interview with Complex, the Slaughterhouse hypeman explains:
"My career is a true testament that everything is possible with hard work, dedication and determination... Layers is 100 percent Royce 5'9". I love rapping and creating music with Marshall, Slaughterhouse, and Premier because they all inspire me creatively in different ways. I haven't released a solo album in five years and I've been through a lot with my sobriety and different situations; and now its time for me to tell my story. Layers is the beginning chapters of me telling my story" (via MTV).
Just a few weeks ago, Royce teased another Bad Meets Evil collaboration:
"I would love to," he told Ambrosia For Heads. "It's just a [timing] thing. Marshall [Mathers] has been in the studio and [he's] not really responsive. I hit him up and he is not calling me back as quick as he used to - which tells me [and indicates] he's busy doing something. I don't know what it is. You will never know [with] that guy."
Stay tuned for any further updates.
