Montreal-born producer and DJ Tiga (not Tyga the desperate rapper) has released his new album No Fantasy Required. The haunting piece of techno and pop doesn't have any listed features, but is filled with brooding rhythms and distorted vocals.
Almost every track on the LP has a vocal in some form or another that range from the nonsensical and almost deranged to the more thoughtful and soft-spoken. There are no listed features on the LP, but Hudson Mohawke is a co-producer on "Planet E."
On "3 Rules," Tiga uses distorted vocals to explain a few sets of three rules that he and his girl have, ranging from "never fall in love with a Virgo," to "never fix your teeth if they are f*cked up" to "never dance with your hands up."
The instrumentals vary from soft, piano led arrangements to dark and aggressive driving techno bass patterns designed for the clubs he frequents.
The driving acid-house tipped song "Always" is placed in stark contrast to the previous tune on the LP "Tell Me Your Secret," which is much softer and toes the line with pop.
This is Tiga's third album and first in seven years. It is the first since 2009's Ciao! that helped put him on the road constantly and loads of festival bookings. He is also one half of the duo ZZT, which released their debut album Party's Over, Earth in 2011.
Fans will have a lot to digest from Tiga on this release, but once the freshness wears off there could be more on the horizon. Right after he announced that No Fantasy Required was finished and ready for release, the producer said that he was already working on the next album.
