Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz's 5-Year-Old Son Gets Production Credit on Kendrick Lamar Album

Kendrick Lamar surprised everyone when he released his latest project Untitled, Unmastered this past Friday (March 4) around midnight. The album was full of unreleased and rough cuts from 2013 and 2014, around the time he was working on his Grammy-winning album To Pimp a Butterfly. One surprise was his crediting Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz's 5-year-old son Egypt as a co-producer on one of the tracks.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Egypt contributed to a synth break on the track “untitled 07 | 2014 - 2016” in a Feb. 8 recording in Los Angeles. Egypt’s father also posted a video to Instagram of his son singing the line and wrote that Egypt “got up that morning humming a melody… We went to the piano to find it… he picked it out by ear.”

“As parents of creative children, this is an amazing day in music,” the couple said to EW. “We have always encouraged Egypt to create the music he feels, and as much as he has fun with it, he works very hard and is always practicing. There’s so many talented kids in the world, and we admire Kendrick for supporting the next generation of amazing artists. May we always cultivate and support the dreams of our children.”

The family that plays together stays together in this case, as Swizz Beatz also signed on to produce a Casa Bacardi event in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach this past December with his wife Keys.
