Earlier this week, Troy Ave issued a response to Joey Bada$$ with his "Bad Ass" record. On the track, the Major Without A Deal rapper made a controversial reference to the late Capital Steez. Royce Da 5'9" recently shared his thoughts on the punchline and said he believes Ave owes Steez’s family an apology.
"Don't get suicidal like ya friend, here's a casket," Troy Ave rapped. "Steez burning in Hell, my burner's in my belt / I'm really killing sh*t, you n*ggas killing yourself / F*cking weirdos, off the roof, 'Steer clear yo!' / This n*ggas tryna fly, he think he a superhero / Splat man! F*ck you and that man."
Back in 2012, Steez committed suicide by allegedly jumping off the rooftop of the Cinematic Music Group building in Manhattan.
While talking with Complex, Royce said that Ave “crossed the line” with his lyrics and should issue an apology.
“There’s a line with anything in life, and [Troy Ave] most certainly, absolutely crossed the line," Royce said. “What did these guys really do to each other, to warrant you that it’s okay for you to be able to say that? Troy Ave, if you’re listening you owe Capital Steez’s family an apology. It’s just that simple."
As noted by HipHopDX, suicide is an issue that hit home for Royce. He continued noting that suicide is “a very, very serious thing” and mentioned that he lost a close friend to suicide.
"You’ve got to be a man and admit when you’re wrong about something," the Slaughterhouse rapper said. "Suicide is a very, very serious thing. It’s not a sign of weakness. There’s nothing cool about the way Troy Ave handled that situation. The kid can rap. Why can't he just rap and say what he has to say about Joey Bada$$? There’s nothing gangsta about that and I don’t support it.”
New York rapper Styles P shared similar sentiments on Twitter following Ave’s interview with Sway in the Morning where he reiterated his thoughts on Steez’s death. Styles P was particularly outspoken about the subject, considering his daughter took her own life in July 2015, and called out Ave for his insensitivity.
Ave somewhat apologized to the LOX member by tweeting, “I respect it OG. You been a supporter but I know suicide is a touchy situation and hits close to home.”
“Matter of fact,” he continued, “If any of MY fans was offended by me saying ALL people who commit suicide was bozo’s, my bad. I’d never purposely diss my real ones.”
Apparently, Ave has no intentions of apologizing to Bada$$, who reignited their feud with his “Ready” record, where he called out Ave over album sales.
