Reports confirm that Lana Rae Meisner - wife of former Eagles founder Randy Meisner - was accidentally shot and killed in their shared California home on Sunday (March 6). The LAPD recently shared the tragic news on Twitter:
Lana Meisner, wife of Eagles member Randy Meisner, was tragically shot with a firearm that accidentally discharged.
Authorities released this statement after a thorough investigation:
"Mrs. Meisner was moving a rifle that was stored inside a case in a closet. As she lifted the rifle in the case, another item within the case shifted and hit the trigger of the rifle causing it to fire and fatally injure Mrs. Meisner" (via Fox News).
Apparently, the 69-year-old musician was in another room when the accidental shooting occurred, and he remained extremely "cooperative" with police throughout. However, officials were called to the residence just a few hours beforehand. They took a domestic violence incident report and left, but responded again at approximately 7 p.m. in regards to suspicious gunfire. Mrs. Meisner was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Back in July 2015, the popular bassist appeared in court after he allegedly threatened a murder-suicide with an AK-47 and was ultimately diagnosed with bipolar disorder (via Rolling Stone). Rumors now suggest that alcohol was likely involved with this latest incident. Still, no foul play is suspected. The New York Daily News claims that although the "Take It To The Limit" rocker was not injured, he was transported to an undisclosed hospital on Monday morning and his mental condition remains unknown:
"The family remains very concerned," an alleged source explains. "They don't know where he is. He relied upon Lana for everything. It's too early to tell what happens now."
The couple shared three (now adult) children together. Stay tuned as more details surrounding this devastating shooting develop. RIP, Lana Rae Meisner.
