Instead of falling into another diss track battle with Troy Ave, Joey Bada$$ released a brand new song entitled "Brooklyn's Own," in dedication to the late Christopher "Notorious B.I.G." Wallace on the late rapper's birthday (March 9) this week. This track, which you can listen to below, is a great reminder of Bada$$'s capabilities in the hip-hop world, mixing hooks and samples that remind us all of arguably the greatest rapper of all time. It is a great homage to Biggy, and a standout track of 2016.

Released on the Pro Era Radio Soundcloud page, "Brooklyn's Own" is produced by Statik Selektah, with featured vocals from Sydne Renee.
Right from the start, the Brooklyn rapper's new track sounds like a Biggy song, mainly because of the samples and overall feel of the tune, but also reminds fans of Bada$$'s earlier work. Just looking at the comments left on this track's Soundcloud will show how excited fans are about "Brooklyn's Own."
This song sounds a lot like B.I.G.'s "One More Chance," with the hook re-imagining the hook to Mary Jane Girls' "All Night Long," which is one of the most sampled tracks in '90s hip-hop.
While plenty of fans are still hoping for a response to Troy Ave, according to Hot New Hip-Hop, we'll take this song any day over something that might get lost in the feud's noise and social media attention.
