It is no secret that electronic music has a ghost-producing problem. This has become exaggerated the more money has been thrown at the genre with more brands and individuals willing to get involved, though the discussion is not as black and white as many would like it to be. A lot of ink has been spilled on the subject and now Gareth Emery with his frequent collaborator Ashley Wallbridge have had enough and decided to spoof the issue with a hilarious new video on just how easy it is to become a DJ.
In the video, he and Wallbridge decide that they want to become famous DJs and go about the super easy way if you have the cash to do so. They look up some ghost producer online, head to his studio and watch him make a track for the price of $30,000. The pair choose possible the most obnoxious name ever CVNT5 and run with it.
They eventually lose interest and walk out to go practice "DJing" in front of a mirror. The most important thing they do is upgrade the wardrobe into a mix of old LMFAO and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, who this is clearly a dig at and have long been dogged by accusations of using ghost producers.
CVNT5 then goes on world tours, taking over clubs, headlining festivals like EDC and Coachella and playing to big crowds where even pisses on them, just like real ghost-produced DJs are pissing on everyone who believes them.
Armin van Buuren makes a cameo at the end after Emery makes the wild claim a lot of these pathological liars do about how much time they spend writing and producing their own music.
They leave out a crucial part to this all-important ghost-produced, money and drug fueled binge that those festival slots can be bought.
