There are a few rules in life - don't call a meeting at 5 p.m. on a Friday, always wear deodorant on an airplane and don't yell F*ck tha police to the cops. They don't happen to like it when you do that. So when a DJ decided to play N.W.A.'s classic track "F*ck Tha Police," which just so happens to use those exact words quite often, things didn't go so well for this DJ and he happened to get fined.
Kashawn Harris, known by his name behind the decks as DJ Boogy, was spinning some music on Oct. 17, 2015 to what police describe as a "rowdy" crowd in the aptly named Shenanigans Pub in Westfield, Massachusetts.
According to the police report via MassLive.com, there were over 350 people in the bar with a capacity of 160.
"I believed at that time the combination of alcohol, the excessive amount of people in the bar and the song that the DJ chose to play at that time was an intentional act by the DJ to incite the crowd [that] showed a reckless disregard for public safety," said Westfield police officer Juanita Mejias who tried to cut the music.
As a result of playing the song, Harris was charged with disorderly conduct and found guilty on March 11 in court. He was ordered to pay a $50 fine.
I had no intention of inciting a riot," he told MassLive. "It was just college kids having fun." He said he had the song cued up to play when the cops walked in and it was more of a timing issue.
Despite making music that the cops don't like, N.W.A. will be inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame next month by Kendrick Lamar.
