Australian fans of Madonna were furious when the diva was two hours late to a gig in Brisbane on her Rebel Heart Tour.
The show finished after the last commuter train had departed for the night, which inconvenienced some fans.
Madonna had been scheduled to start at 9 p.m., according to Billboard, but did not go on at the Brisbane Entertainment Center until 11:22 p.m. By that time, several fans had left the venue. Many requested refunds at the box office after an announcement that the show would not begin before 10:30 P.M.
“We started late -- that hardly ever happens,” Madonna reportedly told the crowd. “You were here too early. You should have taken your time doing your hair and makeup. Then I wouldn’t have been late.” The jury is still out on whether her joke that she told to the near capacity venue of 13,500 fans was well-received.
Because public transport had shut down for the night before the show ended, many fans ended up having to take taxis home. Neither the venue nor Madonna’s publicist responded to a request comment. Madonna will play a second concert in Brisbane before the tour ends in Sydney.
Madonna has had multiple issues on this tour ,and recently broke down onstage over a bitter custody battle with ex Guy Ritchie over 15-year-old son Rocco. Her son had been with her on tour but departed in December 2015 and chose to stay with his father in London. Rocco has remained in London despite numerous orders to return to New York with his mother this past January.
