Brooklyn rapper Desiigner has gained notoriety in the hip-hop world thanks in large part to a placement on Kanye West's The Life of Pablo album and comparisons to Future. He spoke on the similarities in their music and working with West during an interview at SXSW.
When asked if he believed the comparisons to the Atlanta rapper would stop, Desiigner asserted that he is his own man and wished Future the best in his career.
“It is what it is,” Desiigner told HipHopDX’s Trent Clark. "People gonna try to compare me. It is what it is…I know I am Desiigner. I’m just letting people know...Ain’t no muthaf*ckin’ disrespect to him. May that man be God-blessed, man, keep doing his thing hitting the muthaf*ckin’ charts. Keep doing his thing, but I’m Desiigner.”
Interestingly, Desiigner recently released a new track titled “Pluto,” which was also the name of Future’s debut album.
Last month during a performance in New York City, the “Where Ya At” rapper presumably took shots at Desiigner while sharing a few choice words for those copying his style.
“I’ma let y’all n*ggas know, it’s only one Future in this motherf*cker and I’m really the plug, really.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Desiigner opened up about working with West. He said that he was happy to appear on TLOP’s “Pt. 2” and “Freestyle 4.”
“It felt great,” he said. "I feel like that’s where I need to be at. Hey, I’m part of G.O.O.D. Music. Why put it on there?…I’m just always prepared and ready for big opportunities like that, so when it came, I embraced it.”
