Mat Zo's name has been familiar to many in electronic music over the past seven or eight years, releasing music on Anjunabeats and then diversifying from beyond trance to more electro, drum n bass and eclectic sounds, launching his own label Mad Zoo in the process. He released his Grammy-nominated album Damage Control in 2013 and is now ready to follow up that LP with his new full length Self Assemble, which has features from I See MONSTAS and Sinead Egan.
The 12-track LP has been in the works over the past three years. It has a bit of everything from the already quite diverse and vast Mat Zo discography. He draws on influences from 1970's disco on "Sinful," some classic trance on "Stereo No Aware" that has been sought after since it was debuted at ABGT100 at Madison Square Garden.
There are the glitchy and complex productions with warm synth work and then the harder drum n bass tracks such as the ferocious "Ruffneck Bad Boy," which has been out in its original form for quite some time, but he turns it up even higher on a VIP.
Much like Damage Control there are homages to India, which had a profound influence on his music and also short interludes like a hip-hop album, but instead of spoken word skits he has ambient or slowed down minute or minute and a half tracks.
