After nearly 30 years together, Lorde's father proposed to her mother at Niagara Falls yesterday. The 17-year-old singer took to Twitter to make the announcement: "BEST DAY - went to Niagara falls - my dad proposed to my mum after almost 30 years together. " She later answered the "inevitable" question in a new post, acknowledging that she officially seen a diamond in the flesh.
As MTV News notes, it is unclear whether her parents, poet Sonja Yelich and civil engineer Vic O'Connor, are renewing their vows or saying "I Do" for the first time after being a couple for decades.
As US Weekly notes, Lorde spoke of her relationship with her mother and father in Interview magazine when her career first took off.
"My parents are really onto it; they know what young people need. My mum takes my iPhone off me at night, because I need to do homework and sleep, otherwise I'd spend all night on Facebook and Instagram... My parents are pretty good; they understand what I really want."
The proposal comes right after Lorde's performance at the Much Music Video Awards in Toronto on Sunday, where she won the award for International Video of the Year.
