Eminem's Total Slaughter Rap Battle Coming To Pay-Per-View

Back in April, we reported that Eminem and his Slaughterhouse crew planned to turn rap battles into a premier television event with the Total Slaughter rap battle "league" (a la MMA, UFC, WWE), which will take over New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on July 12.

Like any MMA or UFC fight, the event will be coming to pay-per-view. Shady Films and Electus Digital's WatchLOUD.com will present the event live on PPV July 12, Rolling Stone reports.

Slaughterhouse's Joe Budden spoke with Rolling Stone about the idea behind the battles and their importance in history.

"Rap comes from battling. There's a certain cloth most MC's are cut from," Budden told them. "Why do NBA players still play at [famed street basketball court] Rucker Park? When you are competitive you want to play against all players. You never lose the desire to compete against whoever thinks they're the best.

"We want to help put the battle culture on a mainstream platform. As far as Total Slaughter, we want to be the most competitive league in the game! They say Slaughterhouse is the best rap group ever invented, so it's only right to want Total Slaughter to be the best league ever invented."

As Rolling Stone points out, The Road to Total Slaughter, a four-episode series that leads up to the big event, will air on Fuse. The unedited and extended version of the series will appear on WatchLOUD.com.

The show will feature eight little-known rappers going head to head for a spot on Total Slaughter's July 12 event. Slaughterhouse's Budden, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, and Royce da 5'9" will judge the series.
