As if hearing the news that BET and New Edition will soon be releasing a mini-series based on the group's success story; now fans have even more news to get excited about, with the announcement that Empire star Bryshere Gray has been added to the cast. And, the group will be releasing new original music for the series' soundtrack.
While the highly anticipate BET minseries on the career of New Edition is still underway, new developments in the series cast have been announced and tapped to play one of the group members is the actor who plays Hakeem in the FOX hit series Empire, Gray, also known by his performance stage name Yazz.
As Humor Mill reported, the Empire star will portray Michael Bivins in the film according to their sources. The site also revealed the actors and singers who are set to play the remaining group members.
Diana Ross' son Evan Ross will portray Ronnie Devoe; Luke James will play Johnny Gill, Elijah Kelley will play Ricky Bell; Algee Smith will portray Ralph Tresvant and Bobby McClain will play Bobby Brown, according to the site.
In addition to the announced star-studded cast, fans can also expect new original music from the original group members, with the possibility of a full album. Original group member Gill revealed in a Billboard interview how the group has already recorded new music that has been set aside for the series release in 2017. He says they are going to try to have a full album ready for fans by the time the production is ready.
Gill just released his latest album Game Changer in 2014 that features the single, "This One's For Me And You," with a video that features all original New Edition members except Brown.
