Meghan Trainor: Jennifer Lopez 'Ain't Your Mama' Backlash Over Dr. Luke Credit Is "Ridiculous"

Jennifer Lopez: Ain't Your Mama

Speaking to Official Charts, Trainor said that she sent Lopez "Ain't Your Mama" via text message and that JLo thought Trainor had penned the song by herself. She then recorded and released the track, all without ever stepping into the studio with Dr. Luke. Thus, she had no idea who the collaborators on her new single even were.

"[The backlash is] not fair on her, not at all. I texted her the song and she had no idea – she thought I did it alone by myself at my house, which a lot of people think because I do do that," Trainor said. "I sent it to her and said, 'Do you like the song?' and she said 'I love the song, my kid loves the song – he’s made me play it five times already so I know it’s a hit, when can I cut it?' So I said immediately, whenever you want!"

But -- things are not quite so rosy for JLo and "Ain't Your Mama." There has been a great deal of backlash against the song from fans and supporters of Kesha. However, Trainor says that criticism is misplaced, especially for a single that could be a hit for Lopez after her middling 2014 album AKA.

"But I felt terrible when Jennifer got all the hate for [Ain't Your Mama], and it’s just all ridiculous. It’s such a big song for her. After the last album, I’ve been listening to this new album and I’m like, it’s night and day. The music is there, the melodies are there and a lot of my songs are self-empowerment songs, and she loved that about my writing," Trainor said, who worked with Lopez on about three tracks for the new record.

Other than the "Ain't Your Mama" controversy, Lopez's new record is going swimmingly. Trainor teamed up with her on another female-positive song "I'm Looking Good," which explains that even someone as smokin' as JLo can get uncomfortable and self conscious sometimes.

"It’s about [how] even Jennifer Lopez will question herself sometimes and get self conscious. The first words are "Sometimes I get self-conscious and a little insecure / I’ve got to remind myself I’ve got it and that I’m never unsure," Trainor revealed.

But further details about the new Lopez album remain under wraps. However, Trainor's new LP Thank You, featuring her own fiery feminist hit "No," is due out next month.
