It was announced yesterday that British folk singer Vashti Bunyan will be releasing a new album titled Heartleap on October 6 in the UK through FatCat Records, and on October 7 in the US through DiCristina Records. Heartleap will be Bunyan's first album since 2005's Lookaftering, and just her third overall since her cult classic debut Just Another Diamond Day was released in 1970.
Vashti Bunyan debuted in 1965 with her single "Some Things Just Stick in Your Mind," written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and featuring a young Jimmy Page on guitar. After her debut LP Just Another Diamond Day flopped in 1970, Bunyan retired from the music business and faded into obscurity until the early 2000's, when Just Another Diamond Day was re-released and a new generation of folk musicians such as Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, and Animal Collective cited her as a major influence. Bunyan's second album Lookaftering was released in 2005, 35 years after her debut, and featured guest appearances by Banhart and Newsom, among others.
According to Pitchfork, Bunyan's new LP Heartleap was "written, produced, and primarily arranged by Bunyan" and "mostly recorded by Bunyan alone in her own studio...as well as in other studios in England, Scotland, and the U.S." Along with the new album, Bunyan has also announced a brief string of tour dates in England, which are listed below.
October 7 - MAC in Birmingham
October 8 & 9 - St. Pancras Church in London
October 11 - The Band Room in Farndale
October 12 - St. Philip's Church in Manchester
