Famed rapper Rick Ross found himself getting a not-so-nice welcome when he showed up at Detroit's 107.5 FM Summer Jamz 17. While the artist was slated to perform at this past Saturday's event, he was denied entry due to a large mob of people who refused to let him in.
According to MLive, Ross was turned away from the Chene Park amphitheater by a "human blockade" of roughly 150 people who not only denied him access but also threatened his life.
A press released was recently issued stating the blockade was led by a local Detroit rapper, but it does not mention him or her by name. According to MTV News, however, the there is speculation that claims the reason for Ross' denial from Summer Jamz is due to a song titled "No Fly Zone" from Detroit-based rapper Trick Trick. The song apparently insists that fans not support rappers who do not work with Detroit natives. If this proves to be the case, it appears Trick Trick has some pretty loyal fans.
As one could imagine, fans in attendance eagerly awaiting the arrival and performance of Rozay were anything but pleased. Luckily, Jay Hicks, Hot 107.5's program director, took to the crowd following the events to explain the situation, stating:
"I'm going to be real with y'all. I'm going to be real as f--k. We had Rick Ross right outside here tonight. At about 11 o'clock, when he was pulling up to come into Chene Park, he was met by 100 individuals outside. We have tried to pull every resource together and asked him to come back. He is in fear of his life."
Hicks then went on to add, "And he may never come back to Detroit, and that's no bullsh-t. This is some real sh-t. He was in fear of his life and he is not performing here tonight."
So, what did Ross have to say? Well, of course, he took to Twitter and laughed it all off.
