With Coachella getting underway this past weekend, the North American festival season has officially kicked off. Many of the major festival lineups have already been announced for the first few months of the summer, but those taking place towards the back-end of the season are still unveiling their 2016 bills. The latest is New York City's Afropunk Festival, which boasts a whopping lineup of funk, electronic, hip-hop and R&B acts like Flying Lotus (FlyLo), Ice Cube, TV On The Radio and Tyler, The Creator among its headliners.
Other names on the bill include Janelle Monae, CeeLo Green, The Internet, George Clinton, Living Colour, Saul Williams, Gallant, Shabazz Palaces, Thundercat and many more.
The festival has already split up the lineup into its respective days and on which stage they will be performing.
The action will start on Saturday Aug. 27 with names like TV On The Radio, Saul Williams, Tyler, The Creator and Trash Talk. Then the lineup will expand on Sunday with more artists such as Young Fathers, Ice Cube, The Internet, Sango, Gallant and Earl Sweatshirt.
Afropunk will also open things up to indie acts as they have in the past. They will host a battle of the bands competition for a chance to perform at Afropunk Fest 2016 this year. Sign up here for more information and more details will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
Afropunk will take place once again at Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene on August 27 & 28. Head to their website for tickets and for more info on the lineup.
