Prince Has A Second Studio Album In The Works, Featuring Rita Ora And A Song Inspired By A 'Purple Rain' Meme

As previously reported, Prince signed a new record deal with his former label Warner Bros. back in April. Part of the contract promised the release of "long-awaited, previously unheard material" as well as "a brand new studio album." Over the past few months, Prince has teased new music and the release of his full-length Plectrum Electrum, but now the Minneapolis Star Tribune (via Consequence of Sound) reports that there are actually two new studio albums in the works.

Plectrum Electrum will be recorded with his band, 3rdEyeGirl and the other album is planned as an untitled solo release.

The Tribune previewed the second album, which they described as a "Prince album," during a late-night session at Prince's Paisley Park estate. Prince reportedly debuted for them "The Gold Standard," a "percolating electro-funk update of classic Prince;" a remix of "Funk 'n' Roll," a which he premiered last year with 3rdEyeGirl; an untitled Rita Ora collaboration which features her rapping; and a song called "This Could Be Us," which was inspired by a meme of him riding on a motorcycle with Apollonia, taken from his film Purple Rain.

Throughout the evening, Prince reportedly discussed issues such as the difficulties of getting in touch with Warner Music Group execs, problems with the music industry as a whole, especially how long it takes to put out records.

As of now, no release dates have been given for either album.
