After months of teasing and live dates, today (June 23) Julian Casablancas + The Voidz have announced the inevitable: a new album is on its way for 2014. The Strokes frontman and co. announced it will be releasing Tyranny on Sept. 23 and also unveiled 13 North American tour dates for fall 2014.
Julian Casablancas + The Voidz announced Tyranny on its official Facebook page today, alongside a pre-order at Casablancas' label Cult Records. According to the label's store, Tyranny is available for pre-order now for the shockingly low price of $3.87 and will be released on Sept. 23.
The announcement was made with a nearly six-minute teaser video. Simply (and fittingly) titled "TYRANNY," the clip threw together live footage and backstage moments from recent The Voidz shows in Chile and Los Angeles, with Casablancas noting that he was working with the "best musicians I've met over the last four or five years."
Alongside the album release date, pre-order and price, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz unveiled the album artwork for Tyranny, which features a black and red chess board with plenty of knocked over pieces
And no album release announcement would be complete without a set of tour dates. Julian Casablancas + The Voidz will be hitting the road following the release of Tyranny, running from Philadelphia on Oct. 16 to Seattle on Nov. 13.
