Dutch DJ icon Tiësto is the latest to hop on the deep house wave in a big way. The "Wasted" DJ announced over the weekend that he was starting a new label, AFTR:HRS, devoted only to deep house.
This is not something totally new for Tiësto, though the move is the latest in what has been seen by some as jumping on the bandwagon. He started a special After Hours segment on his Club Life radio channel with Sirius XM a few years ago. He has been putting out house records on his own label Musical Freedom over the past few years -- most notably Oliver Heldens' breakout hit "Gecko." He himself has contributed to some house records over the past couple of years with the likes of Don Diablo and Oliver Heldens.
In a series of Tweets, Tiësto explained why he wanted to start this label.
The first song that will be released on the new imprint is "Nungwi" by mysterious producer BLR. It was premiered by Danny Howard on BBC Radio One and can be streamed over on Billboard. "Nungwi" will be released on May 20.
