Police are investigating Prince’s suspected overdose following his death at the young age of 57. The “Purple Rain” singer was found dead in an elevator in his Paisley Park home on April 21. In a recently released report, it was confirmed by police that Prince had been found with prescription drugs at the time of his death.
It has been released that part of the investigation pertains to whether or not a doctor was present on the plane that made an emergency landing in Illinois shortly before Prince passed away. An official who opted to remain anonymous due to a precondition not to speak with media personnel revealed that they were investigating what type of drugs were present on the flight.
It was also revealed by a personal associate named Sheila E. that Prince had longtime physical issues from strenuous performances, which included hip and knee problems.
In a statement released by Billboard, Carver County Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud said that the DEA had not been contacted in regards to the case. The statement read, “We have not asked them for help, or asked them to be part of the investigation. We might contact them to help us, but that hasn’t happened. We don’t have the medical examiner’s report yet. We don’t know to what extent pharmaceuticals could be a part of this.”
NBC News first reported that Prince had painkillers on his person when he was found unresponsive in the elevator and TMZ had issued a report that culprit was a strong medicine called Percocet. According to the outlet, Prince had been checked into the hospital for an overdose five days prior to his death and given a shot of naloxone, a drug used to reverse the effects of an overdose.
