According to a recent interview with his former bandmate Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney has been discharged from the hospital after contracting a viral infection more than a month ago during the Japanese leg of his tour, and is making a speedy recovery. McCartney was admitted to a Tokyo hospital for his illness, where he received "successful medical treatment."
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Starr recalls how he spoke to McCartney over the phone during his hospitalization, confirming that, "He's doing okay... Now he's out, getting fit and getting ready to rock. He's doing good. I text him and he texts me back." Starr also says that his wife Barbara Bach and others, including his brother-in-law Joe Walsh of the Eagles, recently went out to dinner with McCartney. "They all say he's doing good," Starr confirms.
McCartney's recent illness forced him to cancel a number of shows on his current tour, including the remainder of his Japanese dates as well as a show in South Korea. According to NME, McCartney was also forced to postpone dates across the Southern United States, including shows in Lubbock, Dallas, New Orleans, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville, and Louisville "which have now been rearranged for October."
On Sunday, McCartney was spotted vacationing on the island of Ibiza with his wife Nancy Shevell. According to The Daily Mail, McCartney claimed that "I'm feeling great but taking my docs' advice to take it easy for just a few more days."
NME also reports that "A spokesperson for McCartney...said he was 'fine' and insisted that 'the tour resumes in July.' He is scheduled to play in Albany, New York on July 5."
