He already shed the Lil' from his stage name back in 2002, but now Bow Wow is dropping the canine moniker all together.
After boasting the name for more than 20 years, the 27-year-old "106 & Park" host has decided to go with a more conventional name as his professional moniker: his birth name, Shad Moss.
According to his post on Instagram (via Rap-Up), the name change will go into effect following the BET Awards on June 29.
"After BET awards i will no longer go by Bow Wow!" he announced. "Im going by my real name 'Shad Moss' we made alot of history as bow wow. Now its time for the next chapter and challenge."
He added that the change is part of his evolution as a person. "Bow wow does not fit who i am today, he wrote. "Ima father, business man, TV host, Actor, and rapper! Time for MR Moss to take over!"
As Rap-Up notes, Snoop Dogg gave Moss the name Lil' Bow Wow in 1993. He dropped the Lil' from his name when he was 22 years old and went by Bow Wow.
Next up for Moss is the release of his Trauma Tone-produced single "Right Now" featuring K-Camp via YMCMB/So So Def.
