A Beyonce concert was postponed by bad weather on the very same day that Minnesota had declared May 23 in the singer’s honor.
According to NME, a lightning storm broke out at 8:15 PM this past Monday (May 23) shortly before Beyonce was supposed to take the stage. As a result, 35,000 fans were evacuated from TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. They were only allowed back into the venue at 9 PM when the threat had passed. Beyonce said, “Thank you for riding out the storm with me,” as the two-hour performance began.
Earlier in the day, Governor Mark Dayton had said that May 23 was “Beyonce Day” for a period of 24 hours. In his official statement on Beyonce Day, Dayton said, “Beyonce has influenced many women and young girls with powerful, positive messages in her songs.”
During the show, it was insinuated that the reported problems in her marriage to Jay Z were forgiven (the very problems that inspired her latest smash hit album Lemonade). When she sang the line “Becky with the good hair” from the song “Sorry” off the album, Beyonce reportedly rolled her eyes, as well as declaring that “All Night” was her favorite song. “All Night” is the quintessential love song from the album.
In other exciting Beyonce news, the singer has reportedly added dates to her Formation World Tour and the new shows will take place in the fall after the European leg of the tour. The first show that Beyonce added was at Metlife Stadium in New York on Sept. 7 due to the other two occurring at Citi Field already being sold out.
The other new shows will be taking place in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Nashville and Philadelphia. Tickets for the new shows went on sale May 13.
