Lady Gaga is reportedly slated to appear in Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born remake, and is “in talks” to replace Beyonce. Cooper is reportedly set to both produce, direct and star in the film, which was first introduced to him as an actor back in 2012 when Clint Eastwood planned on directing it.
Beyonce was the original choice for female lead in the film, but eventually backed out when the project failed to move forward. A Star Is Born tells the story of an up and coming star who falls in love with an over the hill rocker and how her career rises as his falls off the map. The female lead has been played by several strong ladies in the past, including Janet Gaynor in 1937, Judy Garland in 1954 and Barbara Streisand in 1976.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Mother Monster is in the running to play the female lead after impressing Warner Bros. executives with her screen test.
The remake of A Star Is Born was scripted by Will Fetters, who is credited with writing Remember Me and The Lucky One in the past. When the project was first in the works in 2012, Fetters had expressed that he planned to base the role of the aging rocker on Kurt Cobain.
“I approached A Star Is Born [imagining] if Kurt Cobain never got to go unplugged and survived and it’s now, and he wanted to try to do that album with that understanding as a grunge icon. That’d be tough to get done if he was past his prime, no longer selling, how does he get that album?”
This is not the first joint venture that Lady Gaga has undertaken recently; she is also partnering with Elton John for a Love Bravery clothing line at Macy’s. The clothing line supports both of their charities, Born This Way for Gaga and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. There is reportedly slated to be a large musical influence on most of the clothing items, including piano prints, hearts, Lady Gaga’s face and a signature monster claw for the “Little Monsters.”
