The Spice Girls reunion that the industry has been taking about is seemingly confirmed for the 20th anniversary of "Wannabe," but it will only be a partial one. Three of the original five members, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell, Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton and Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, are reportedly set to team up with GEM, an acronymic splinter group.
Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham and Melanie “Sporty Spice” Chisholm are missing from a video released where the group seemingly confirms the reunion.
“We’ve been thinking, we have the best fans in the whole entire world,” the reunited members said in the new video. “You stood by us for 20 years and we want to say thank you. We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there. And we want to celebrate and have a party - and when we do, you’re all invited.”
As for the other two members, there are rumors that Chisholm is working on a career as a solo recording artist. In an interview, she told The Sun, “I am keeping tight-lipped. There are lots of discussions going on. Right now I am in the studio working on my own album and that is my focus. I’m taking it slowly.”
Beckham has always come from the stance that she wants to focus on family and her career in fashion.
In original reports of a Spice Girls reunion, it was implied that Chisholm would be a part of it all but Beckham was always out. There are also rumors that the reunion will entail a 20th anniversary tour.
A source told US Weekly, “This has been in the works for the past year. The girls have long been keen to do a major reunion tour together.”
