After conflict with the late singer's family, Zendaya will no longer play Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime biopic.
"Zendaya is no longer involved in the project," a rep for the actress told E! News on Sunday.
Earlier this month, Music Times reported that the 17-year-old Disney Channel star would portray the "One In A Million" singer in Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.
Rap-Up reports that Zendaya dropped out of the role because of production issues, which included problems obtaining the rights to Aaliyah's music.
"Aaliyah has always been an inspiration to Zendaya," the source said. "She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her. If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right."
In addition to issues with production, Aaliyah's family has publicly condemned the film. The singer's loved ones have reportedly hired a lawyer to halt production.
As previously reported, her family is apparently not opposed to a big, theatrical film but believe that a made-for-TV movie is too small for a star of Aaliyah's stature.
Initially, it was the "Rock The Boat" vocalist's uncle and former manager Barry Hankerson who announced the posthumous project.
Back in December, Hankerson debuted a movie poster for the film on Twitter.
"Merry Christmas #TeamAaliyah #VH1 "One in a million" The Aaliyah Story @VH1 sneak peek! Merry Christmas enjoy #2014," Hankerson tweeted.
The movie was scheduled to begin filming in the summer and air this fall.
Zendaya thanked her fans for understanding. "My Zswaggers are the BEST! Thank you for your undying support thru everything!" she said.
