The Voice host Gwen Stefani recently shared how she and co-host and country star Blake Shelton became close and started their relationship. According to the No Doubt vocalist, this all started after Shelton announced his divorce from Miranda Lambert.
According to People, Stefani recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show and opened up about her personal relationships. She revealed that when Shelton announced his divorce to the staff and crew of The Voice in July last year, she felt a bit uncomfortable because she was also going through the same situation with Gavin Rossdale at that time.
"I had this huge weight on me and nobody but my parents and obviously everybody involved knew. ... I was in shock, because it felt like he was exposing me," Stefani said during the show. "I just couldn't even wrap my head around it."
But eventually, Stefani began to open up to her co-host about the things that she was going through. As they both talked about their failed relationships with Lambert and Rossdale, Shelton and Stefani became close friends.
"Which was, just, unbelievable that God would put us in a position to have each other at that moment, in that, like, the same exact moment," she said.
Shelton also recently admitted to Rolling Stone how he and Stefani became close because of their unfortunate situations. According to the country singer, they used their break from The Voice to talk about the matter and to iron out the issues that they went through.
Their closeness served as the foundation of their relationship. A month after Shelton confirmed his divorce from Lambert, Stefani finalized her separation from Rossdale. Then, after a few months, Shelton announced that he and Stefani were dating.
