Ginja Elms, one of the victims of the shooting at 1 Oak nightclub in 2014, has filed a lawsuit against Chris Brown and Pia Mia stemming from the incident. According to the plaintiff, the rapper's gang affiliations were the reason why a shooting spree erupted at the venue 2 years ago.
According to TMZ, Elms is suing Brown and Mia for over $750,000 due to the gunshot wounds he suffered on Aug. 24, 2014 at the West Hollywood nightclub. Aside from his physical injuries, he is also seeking compensation for the incident's effect on his marriage.
Elms also blamed the nightclub for not conducting a thorough search on patrons to check if they were carrying weapons that night. He noted that since Brown reportedly had connections to gangs, the club's security staff should have properly screened the people who entered the venue.
The incident happened 2 years ago during a pre-MTV Video Music Awards party hosted by Brown and Mia at 1 Oak, Inquisitr reports. The event was attended by various celebrities including Tyson Beckford, The Game, Russell Wilson, Suge Knight, Young Jeezy and Lil' Twist.
However, at around 1:30 in the morning of Aug. 24, several gunshots were heard inside the club. To prevent people from panicking, Beckford reportedly told the crowd that what they heard were not gunshots.
When the police cleared the area, they discovered that Knight had been shot multiple times. The Death Row Records co-founder recovered from his injuries and in June of this year, he filed a lawsuit against the club, Brown and Mia.
Like Elms, Knight also blamed the nightclub for failing to ensure the safety and security of its patrons. The rap mogul also stated in his lawsuit that the defendants should pay for his medical expenses.
