Marilyn Manson, David Duchovny: ‘Californication’ & ‘X-Files’ Star Talks Debut Wilco-Influenced Album, Duets With Rocker On Eagles Classic

Actor David Duchovny may have recently said au revoir to his oh, so wonderful Showtime series Californication, but he is now saying bonjour to something brand new, a music career. Helping him along the way is friend and former co-worker Marilyn Manson.

The once-upon-a-time Hank Moody will be making his foray into the music biz next year when he drops his debut album, which he's hoping will sound like Wilco or R.E.M. ... if he's lucky, as he puts it.

Manson made a guest appearance during Californication's 6th season, and apparently the two became rather friendly. Duchovny recently posted a photo on Twitter of the two playing guitar, but he's since deleted it. The photo was from last year's Californication wrap party and showed Manson wrapping his arms around Duchovny's waist, playing his Gibson, during a performance of "Hotel California." Duchovny told Rolling Stone, "Don Felder came up and played 'Hotel California' and Manson sang it. I played it. I'm not sure I was plugged in, but I played it. And at one point Manson came and decided to play the guitar from behind me."

Duchovny has been playing guitar for a number of years. "I've always written poetry for better or worse and once I started playing music, I started thinking, 'Gee, I should be able to write lyrics,'" he told RS. "And I just fell backwards into the whole thing. It's just been a real pleasure in my life, regardless of who buys it and what people think of when it comes out. It's been a lifesaver just to be able to play music, write songs and think about singing songs to friends."
