English singer John Newman, who frequently collaborates with Calvin Harris, recently confirmed that his brain tumor has returned. Despite his current condition, the "Love Me Again" singer promised his fans that he will still continue writing new songs.
Through an official statement, Newman admitted that the benign tumor that was removed through surgery four years ago has returned. He also noted that he's currently undergoing medical procedures that involves monitoring his situation.
"This was going to come out at some point and it's probably best it's out in the open now," he said according to NME. "I have been monitored constantly since the first time I had the tumor removed. There was always a chance that it could return and it is unfortunate but it is something I am prepared to get through when the time is right, some point next year."
The first time Newman was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor was in 2012. During that year, Rudimental's single "Feel the Love," which features Newman, reached the top spot at the U.K. Singles Chart, MTV reported.
According to a source close to the pop star, Newman is calmer now compared to when he first encountered the tumor. Since his first surgery went off without a hitch, the singer is reportedly very optimistic about overcoming his condition, Daily Mail noted.
The source also claimed that since the doctor told Newman that the tumor has not grown, he can put off getting surgery until next year. But, since he'll most likely be subjected to radio therapy after the operation, Newman will probably take a break from his music career in 2017.
Despite this, the artist said that he still intends to continue working on his projects.
"Nothing will ever stop me from doing the job I love so much," he said. "Nothing will ever stop me from making music. People shouldn't worry about me, the prognosis is good and there are so many people in far more serious situations."
