“They tellin’ lies on Hot 97 and that’s how it goes,” he rapped, adding, “I told ‘em fire Funk Flex, then I’ll come and do your show.”

Drake’s diss at Hot 97 came on the heels of Ebro Darden insinuating that Drake had privately said to him that he’d step up if Eminem ever dissed him on a recording. Darden later confirmed that his assertions had simply been a joke aimed towards Drake’s feud with a member of Eminem’s Shady Records posse, Joe Budden of Slaughterhouse according to Billboard.

Hahahaha!!! 7pm Sat I got a story to tell! @Drake u gonna learn! #NYC @HOT97 — Funk Flex !!!!! (@funkflex) August 5, 2016
Darden responded to the concert diss in a tweet which confirmed that Drake was upset with Flex, and a tweet from Pete Rosenberg of Hot 97 soon followed. Even Flex jumped in on the tweet war, saying “u gonna learn” to Drake.
On the morning of Friday (Aug. 5) Darden and Rosenberg were already chatting about the situation on air, and traced the beef back to this past summer, when the Meek Mill and Drake beef was in full swing.
Darden also noted that Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Nas have had disagreements with Hot 97 in the past.
